Of course I am all too familiar with your efforts, and I really wanted to highlight CMC's Pinterest account in this post, (especially for the local aspect). Unfortunately, my post ran long (surprise, I know) and it did not make the cut. :(
Like I said in reply to Jeannette, I think that's the beauty of Pinterest: there really is no clear cut direction that everyone is expecting it to go. Because of that, I think that the vast greater majority of businesses can carve their own niche in Pinterest. CMC, along with the other business models you mentioned, are perfect examples.

We do not post pins of our apartment models but rather things that renters can use or do with our units i.e. decorating ideas, home office ideas, entertaining recipes or birthday party ideas, DIY projects - the list goes on.
I think you just have to be creative to find pins that work for you. A landscaper can offer seasonal plants and flower bed ideas, outdoor decor etc. A coffee shop: cute cups/mug sets, ideas for infusing flavored tea bags, chalk board art from coffee holes around the world (as chalk drawings are synonymous with coffee dens)

I really appreciate your very unique view of a service-based company that could win in Pinterest. I think that not only is your target demographic interacting with Pinterest, but also agree that the idea to promote yourself in SoMe entirely in Pinterest is novel. I'm curious to see if there are other service companies that could benefit in Pinterest. Personally, I think that you are just one of many.
Any other service based companies you think could benefit in Pinterest? What are some the effective ways you have noted with utilizing Pinterest to promote your services? How are you illustrating your services so that the stigma you speak of is removed? Would love to know more, and thanks for the comment, Joseph!

Thanks for the response, Joseph. I totally agree that a product-based company really wins at Pinterest, and I think that the more tangible the item, the better. I think that the old adage 'a picture is worth a thousand words' really rings true in Pinterest, in more way than one! Thus, a tangible, product offering company stands to benefit the most.
In regards to your second article link: This is what is so awesome about Pinterest right now. By this, I mean that Pinterest is so young, as well as incredibly (and ever increasingly) popular, that a plethora of different directions and paths could be followed. We are only at the beginning, and I know that personally, I am VERY curious to see the path Pinterest takes.

isPermaLink="false">http://gainesville-marketing.com/?p=2673#comment-2043

Two weeks ago, when I stated seeing daily Mashable articles on Pinterest, I went over and checked it out. Right off the bat, Pinterest is captivating with all of the photos and the creativity that is demonstrated through them. If you are a visual learner you can almost get swepted away for hours by Pinterest.
I immediately saw the benefit to my own business and requested an invite which I received yesterday. I am a life coach to teens and college students and realized that Twitter just does not create the opportunity to really connect with people to encourage more of a dialogue. Also, there is much that the general public "does not get" or does not understand about life coaching. Life coaching at this moment is how psychology/psychiatry was probably viewed back in the 50's. The opportunity to connect concepts with behaviors one wishes to change through images I think will have a real impact on lessening any stigma. Solely writing about behavioral change is intangible to most people so they just move on. It also gives me the opportunity to provide tutorials so that viewers can see the concepts in action. For me, I could see me almost exclusively working just through Pinterest at this point. It is the exact answer I have been hoping for and the timing is almost too good.
If you have a high school or college student in your life and need some inspiration for helping them become more confident and resilient, maybe you'll find what I have to say Pinteresting?http://pinterest.com/josephcallender/

I [like many people] am enjoying Pinterest! I'm fascinated by all that is being shared; the inspirational images, ideas, etc. I even started an #usguys board, (go check your own avi:) However, I think it has it's limitations.
It's ideal for companies that offer a product. Not so much for companies that offer services.
My challenge has become in how I can make this work for me, without becoming a well-known-spammer!
I thought you would find this article interesting, written by Dan Perez:

Another controversial point was made in the last few days by a post that informs us about Pinterest quietly generation revenue by modifying user submitted pins:
http://llsocial.com/2012/02/pinterest-modifying-user-submitted-pins/
Both links very interesting and complementary to your well written post!
Great insight Ken.

Great points made here Ken!<br
