class="wp-caption-text">Google's Recent Algo Update: The Penguin Update

Just in case you are not an Internet Marketing Industry expert like us over here at Online Potential (and if you’re not, that’s OK, we LOVE this stuff), Google recently unveiled a new algorithm update that had a much larger effect on websites than that of their normal updates (side note: Google made over 600 algo updates last year alone). This update was dubbed the Penguin update, and in short, the update was designed to eliminate several issues Google felt are tarnishing Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). The main issue at hand is spam, and Google implemented this wide sweeping algo change to combat some glaring issues that spam has exploited. It looks like there were four main spam techniques that Google tried to target with the Penguin update:

Keyword Stuffing – Using Keywords over and over in your web copy to the point that a human could in no way decipher what is being said

Link Schemes – Google Webmaster Tools defines this as creating links to intentionally manipulate PageRank, links to spammers, and buying and selling links that pass off PageRank

Cloaking – Again, Google Webmaster Tools defines Cloaking as “the practice of presenting different content to search engines and users.” Basically, cloaking is an attempt to show search engines one form of a website to help it rank better in SERPs (HTML coding), all the while showing that same page to viewers in a completely different format (like flash).

Duplicate Content – This is pretty much as it sounds: the practice of taking content that you did not create and using it on your site and trying to pass it off as your own.

All of the above listed spamming techniques have been addressed by Google in the past, and to be honest, this type of algo updating isn’t really anything new. If you have been in the Industry for any amount of time (and Online Potential has), this is pretty Standard Operating Procedure from Google. You might have heard about the Panda update last year, or any other cute mammal they use as a mascot for their latest algo update.

The point of the matter is and unfortunately will always be the same in this Industry: Some SEO “professionals” will always spend their time trying to game the system, while other SEO professionals spend their time learning more about the best practices laid out by Google (and other Search Engines) and trying to uphold said ethical best practices. It’s commonly referred to as Black Hat SEO techniques versus White Hat SEO techniques.

You are presently experiencing the later of those two examples by simply reading this blog post: quality content used to assert yourself as an authority in your market. Look, it really is as simple as that. You are the best at what you do and you are the most knowledgeable person in your profession, specifically in your market. Your web presence needs to be able to convey that to the people that are performing keyword searches for the product and services that you offer, specifically in your market. That’s it. If you commit yourself to writing original, compelling content for your audience, sharing that content in Social Media, and engaging and interacting with your community to maintain your authority and expertise, no Google-mammal-named-mascot-algorithm-change will ever be a concern of yours. And because you adhere to the aforementioned best practices, the only concern you should ever have with your web presence is how to manage your increased visibility in Search Rankings, the increase of followings in your Social Media profiles, and of course the rise of your authority in your professional community by and large.

What ethical techniques do you use to increase your web presence and assert your expertise? Leave us a comment below and let us know. class="wp-caption-text">Create Great Content for Your Audience

Whenever you create a new piece of content, your first step should always be to select the topic for your new piece of content, all the time and every time. But what is the most effective way of selecting topics? Oftentimes, simply picking a topic that you feel is relevant to your business is not the most effective selection process. In order to tune in to what your audience wants and needs to hear about, you will want to perform keyword research. Keyword research will allow you to determine what your audience is searching for, which in turn, gives you an idea about the kind of topics that they would want to read about. This research can be done using Google’s Keyword Tool and Wordtracker’s Keyword Tool.

Spend Time Performing Research

Keyword research will tell you what your audience is looking for online, but that is only the first half of the content selection process. Every piece of content you produce should reward your audience in some way for reading it. The most typical way to do this is to solve some sort of problem or answer a question that your audience has. By solving a problem, you have given your audience a reason to spend their valuable time reading your content. Effective Keyword research, combined with this method of problem solving copywriting, will enable you to choose topics that are extremely relevant to your audiences wants and needs.

Use Google to Keep You Alert

After you spend some time using your keyword research to write content, you may begin to feel that you have used up all of your research ideas and have nothing to write about, but there is a way to prevent this. If you set up Google News Alerts using your keywords, you will be alerted to other blogs that are being written that utilize your keywords. By looking through these blogs, you can begin to find patterns of topics that are written about often. You can then use these popular topics as starting points when writing your own content.

Get Creative with Existing Resources

In addition to Keyword research, there are several other “shortcuts” to choosing relevant topics. These shortcuts should not replace your keyword content, but they can be used to supplement your material written using keyword research. These shortcuts include writing about current or industry specific events, reviewing a book relevant to your audience, and interviewing people whom your audience would be interested in. Your keyword research can be a helpful tool in determining books or interviewees that would be relevant to your audience.

Selecting a topic is an important part of the copywriting process. Excellent content that does not interest or does not apply to your desired audience is simply a waste of time and resources. By using these methods, you can ensure that your content is applicable to your audience and that your audience will want to read and share it. Can you think of other methods of generating content topics? We would love to hear about them in our comments section, so please feel free to leave yours!

Ready For Something Free?

Are you writing for you, or for your audience?

When writing content, you may think that the best method is to write something that will appeal to the highest amount of people as possible. After all, the goal of content writing is to appeal to as much of your audience as possible. But when it comes to content writing, it is more important to appeal to the right people than it is to appeal to everyone. Different styles of music, movies, and books target different audiences, so why should content writing be any different?

One of the most important things to remember when writing content is who your audience is. A piece of content is not a memo, it’s not a Public Service Announcement, it is the first piece of a dialogue between you and your audience. As such, one style of content writing is not acceptable for every possible audience. You need to adjust your writing style depending on who your audience is.

Cater Your Writing to your Audience

When writing content, it is important to remember who your audience is. Your writing style should differ depending on if you’re addressing a small business owner or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Your writing style should differ if you’re writing to an audience of parents or an audience of teenagers. The important thing to remember when writing content is that you are writing content for your audience, not for you.

Write as Though You Are having A Conversation

A piece of content is not a memo or a Public Service Announcement, it is the first piece of a dialogue between you and your audience. Your content is your way of communicating with your audience. When you write content, write as though you are having a physical conversation with a member of your audience. This approach to content writing will help build a sort of unspoken trust between you and your audience, and it will help to make your audience more receptive to your message. When writing content, remember, you are talking to your audience, not at your audience.

Encourage Feedback

When writing content, audience feedback is key. Without feedback, it’s tough for you to know if your content is affecting your audience. Feedback can come in a variety of forms. It could be email open rates, email forward rates, comments on a blog post, or the number of shares a piece of your content receives in Social Media. Feedback is essentially your cue that your audience is making use of and are finding value in your content. A great way to encourage feedback is to ask your audience questions. By encouraging your audience to think about the subject of your content, you increase the likelihood that they will remember you and your business, and in return, provide you with some sort of valuable feedback.

Marketing Takeaway

Every audience is different, and every audience needs to be addressed differently. When writing content, it is essential to take your audience’s perspective into account, and adjust your writing style accordingly. By basing your writing style on your audience, you will be able to more effectively captivate their attention, and once you have their attention, it will allow you to market your product or service much more easily.

Do you have any other suggestions about how to effectively write to your audience? If you do, please share them with me in our comments section, I would love to hear your opinion on the matter.

Writing content can be difficult and time consuming. href="http://www.online-potential.com" target="_blank">Online Potential University. Last but not least, this blog has been a resource for thousands and thousands of visitors over the past 3 years but creating fresh, relevant content is NOT easy.

Two of the biggest questions I get from business owners is:

How do you know what to write about? and

How do you find the time to write?

Here are my top 3 recommendations for finding the inspiration for new ideas and content:

LISTEN - have you had a recent conversation with a customer? A potential client? Did they voice concern over a specific problem? What were they frustrated about? I often times leave meetings with local business owners with a specific area of my notes dedicated to new content ideas – content that will be created around answering those “PAIN” areas that real business owners have. As a matter of fact, one of our most popular blog posts started on a UNPLUG - this might sound strange coming from someone who runs an internet marketing agency but my best writing happens when I am completely UNPLUGGED. No internet, no phone, no distractions. As a matter of fact, around deadline time for a new book or report you will often times find me tucked away in one of our local library branches. Or, in the back of a coffee shop with headphones on.

TAKE A WALK – not only is sitting all day terrible for your health, it can also stymie the creative juices. Get outside! Go enjoy nature or at the very least stretch your legs and lose yourself in thought (just don’t wander into traffic). I frequent Devil’s Millhopper state park and Payne’s Prarie – both places have inspired creative thinking that has led to major strategic decisions here at Online Potential

Quick Tips for Inspiration When Time is Short

No time for a long walk or meeting with a client? Try these quick tips:

Mozart Effect - I am a firm believer in the power of binaural beats and audio stimulation. Baroque music can be a powerful tool for stimulating creative thinking – I listen to Mozart frequently while I write and throughout much of the day while I am planning.

Cold Showers – This one might seem a little extreme but we can all suffer from those mid-afternoon blues that seem to kill creative thinking and productivity as a whole. Fight the lethargy with an ice cold shower (or even better an ice bath) and I promise, you will feel like you just chugged a triple shot of expresso!

Office Zen – this tip is extremely helpful when you feel like you’ve got a million different things rolling around in your head. Simply take a seat on the floor, cross your legs and place your hands on your knees. Start by taking 10 deep breaths – try a 4 second inhale and a 4 second exhale pace. Focus on your breathing. After breath number 10, stop counting and continue the slow, steady exhale and inhale pace. 4 seconds in, 4 seconds out. Don’t get up until you feel the relaxation and have lost yourself in your breathing.

Got an Inspiration Tip?

We hope this little peek behind the Online Potential curtain is helpful and most of all, that it inspires new growth in YOUR business. What are some of the ways that you find inspiration now? Please share in the comments section below, we would love to hear from you and so would our readers.

The First Thing Every Business Owner Wants to Know Is…

the data on how your potential customers and website visitors are behaving – dictate the next steps, rather than just making assumptions.

At Online Potential, we have built a culture of targeting customer behaviors and using those behaviors as the guide by which we determine how best to serve your company. Once we gather all available information, we have a better idea of where we can focus your valuable marketing budget in a way that makes the most sense and most importantly, will have the BIGGEST IMPACT.

Using the Numbers to Increase the Numbers

Here’s a perfect example of effectively utilizing website metrics: Recently a new client came to us wanting help with Local Search Engine Optimization – they wanted to be in the top position on Google, Yahoo and Bing for their keyword terms and phrases. Now, that’s an admirable goal, but when our team began examining their website and specifically their web metrics, we saw a couple glaring concerns:

High bounce rates on their top 5 most visited pages – meaning that the website was not engaging new visitors

No conversion goals were established – they weren’t measuring how well their “contact us” (and other conversion pages) were working and as a result, weren’t able to identify where leads were coming from

Little to no social engagement – the company was focusing significant energy on Facebook and other social media sites, but based on the visitor metrics of the website, it didn’t appear that this was driving significant traffic back to the website

We noticed many strategic changes that could be considered “low-hanging fruit” – fixes that should and could be addressed quickly for maximum impact. Our recommendation solutions did come back with an SEO element to them, but it was not the primary focus. What we emphasized was that by addressing other fixes first, their SEO efforts would reap a much better return.

Key Takeaways For Any Business Owner

Peter Drucker, considered by many as the Godfather of modern management, was famously quoted as saying “What is not measured is not managed.” You don’t need Online Potential to begin measuring customer behaviors on your website; that information already exists! You can install google analytics for free and take advantage of a wealth of data that will help you make sound marketing decisions. What you need Online Potential to do is help you interpret that measurement data, and then utilize that data into making actionable marketing decisions. By doing this, Online Potential can ensure that you are reaching your highest possible ROI with your Internet Marketing budget.

What are some of the indications of your marketing efforts you have noticed with your own metrics? How did that information help you better-focus your Marketing strategy and/or budget? Make sure to leave a comment below and contribute to the conversation!

Want Something Free?

Here at Online Potential, we are all about servicing our clients. class="wp-caption-text">Are Your Headlines Helping Convert Traffic?

A powerful headline is one of the most important parts of copy-writing. Your headline is literally the only chance you have to convince your audience that what you’re writing is worth their time. With the amount of spam that bombards an average person, a powerful headline is the only way to make your content stand out amongst the crowd. Trying to come up with an effective headline can be difficult at first, but I’ve compiled three rules of thumb that can help simplify the process and help you to write effective headlines.

Headlines come first

One of the most important things to remember when copy-writing is to always write the headline first. Your headline is a promise, an agreement with your audience. By writing your headline first, you allow this promise to shape the body of your work. It is much easier to promise something and then write content that fulfills it, than to write an entire piece of content and try to figure out a promise that incorporates what you have written. Basically, don’t work backwards.

You’re Making a Promise

Your headline is a promise to your readers, but make sure you are promising them something useful. Your headline needs to offer them something that will improve their lives or help them in some way. Your audience members won’t want to read content with a great headline if they don’t think they’ll be able to get anything out of it.

Be Succinct and to the Point

Your headline needs to be succinct. A headline needs to be a complete thought, not a run on sentence. If you feel that your headline may be too long, but you also feel that all of the information in it is important, then you need to rewrite it. For instance, “Powerful headlines draw in readers, and I can show you how to write them” is too long and awkward sounding to be used as an effective headline, even though it summarizes what this blog post is about. A more concise headline would be “Learn how to write powerful headlines that draw in readers.” Here, I essentially took the two different thoughts of the original headline, “Powerful headlines draw in readers,” and “You can learn how to write them” and then combined the two into one succinct headline that captured the essence of the original headline, but was also more easily readable.

Marketing Takeaway:

Headlines are your readers gateway to your content. Ensuring that your headlines are effective is the only way to convince your audience that you have something worthwhile to say. Promise your audience something. Make sure the information is relevant. Keep your headlines short and to the point. By following these three tips you can begin to write powerful headlines that will help your content stand out amongst the spam and junk mail that bombards your audience every day. And remember, a powerful headline is the first, and most important step in getting your content read. What are some other ways you have found helpful in creating successful headlines? Please feel free to leave a comment below!

You’re Not Alone!

Content production is tough, and it takes a lot of time and energy. However, the advantage to having well written, optimized copy is immediate impacts on your Internet Marketing budget’s ROI. class="wp-caption-text">Organic Growth: Organic Thinking

Having a well-optimized site for search engines often guarantees that your website will rank well in the organic search results. However, as stated in this earlier post about ranking well organically, several key items must be taken care of and you have to be sure about some of the following factors:

1) Design/ Development process
2) Content
3) Usability/Accessibility
4) Search Engine Optimization
5) Off-site

Let’s analyze them, one by one, in greater detail:

1) The Website Design and Development Process

This is a very broad topic, so let’s just keep our focus simple.

Good Images - Try to insert attractive images, optimizing them for the web (using your keyword terms); then when a visitor comes into your site he will have a quick connection with it. Remember to add keywords as Alt texts for them because crawlers look at descriptions, not images, and it’s just a good rule of thumb.
Design - When you design your website think what will the visitor look for, when visiting it? Think if the placement of elements is attractive for the visitor.
Ensure that contrast levels and text sizes are acceptable, and try using different setups of the copy, as well as asking your colleagues and customers what they think of the new website design.
Consistency – This is a big one and often gets overlooked. Remember that the site has to function consistently, because not having a consistent site yields anxiety and tension with your visitors, which in turn will force them to leave your site.
Testing - If and when you update your site, make sure that you are testing it to make sure that it is working on different computers, and in different browsers.not everyone has your computer and uses Internet Explorer.

2) Content:

If you haven’t heard this by now, here is something you need to know: Content is the king, and because of this, the content you write has to be compelling and attractive. Otherwise, simply put, visitors will leave the site. Remember to write for your audience, in a very simple and easy to understand way, and avoiding confusing sentences. Use articles and press releases for reference in your content. Have a blog and keep it updated so that you will engage visitors and interact constantly with them. Listen to your visitors suggestions, answer their questions, and offer them effective solutions. Be sure to fulfill your goals when writing for your visitors, offer and display what they are looking for. Match your goals with your visitors’ wants or likes and you will start to see your community of followers grow.

3) Usability

Usability could be defined as a quality of the website, and to be honest, the usability of a website is the key for survival on on the Internet. If your website is difficult to navigate, people will leave and your bounce rate will increase. If users do not find what they want/need, they will leave and try to get it in other site. Some of the ways you can improve “usability” are easy to implement:

Observe visitor behavior (through Analytics): where do they succeed, and where are they having difficulties on the website?

Give users the ability to inform you about how easy your site is to navigate, or what some of their suggestions for improvements would be

Is the website pleasantly designed? Is boring? Tacky? Complicated? Too crowded?

Does the site do what users want or need?

4) On-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Since we are talking about the five ways to help you rank organically, of course we are going to talk about SEO. Here is where your focus should be with SEO:

Write compelling content (we said content is King), adding consistent and relevant titles to each page in your website (preferably with keywords associated with your services or products). Check to make sure content is not too short and that you’ve clearly wrote the content of the page.

Link to your internal pages, because it is very important to internal links, as well as external links, in your website. This is actually a step that is very important and overlooked a greater majority of the time.

Check and optimize your keywords for performance. Are you getting the right kind of visitors? Change, improve, and strengthen your keyword strategy regularly. Using the right keywords and the right quantity of them is the at the core of your organic result success and will ensure great results in your strategy.

5) Off-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The whole goal of gaining links back to your site is to build trust and authority to your site. It sounds simple enough, but there are some smart ways to go about gaining those valuable links. Here are but a few (and all white hat!)

Go to forums, blogs and portals and hang out; offer advice. Do not spam. (Raise your right hand and repeat after me: I…will never…ever…spam)

Listen your visitors, interact with them; listen your competitors, potential clients, so you can learn from them about what to improve in your site.

Encourage viral promotion. Spread the word among your regular customers and followers and tell your friends or colleagues something unique about you, your site, your product or services.

Be yourself; don’t try to imitate somebody else, be authentic and natural when interacting with your customers.

Do not spam. When you do it you lose respect and will be flagged on the Internet. Plus, you’ve already sworn you won’t, so this doesn’t effect you, right???\

Be present on Social Media. Open an account on Facebook for your site or product and invite people to become friends. Engage and interact constantly on Twitter by answering consumer comments, especially to claims or concerns, and offering up content to your followers.

There is no short-cut to ranking well organically. It takes time, a clear strategy, hard-work and determination. But the return on investment that you gain from your efforts will impact your bottom line and most importantly, ensure that your business still has a future. Remember this: the biggest return on investment with Internet Marketing, by far, is that your company will still be in business in five years…

Feeling Overwhelmed with your Internet Marketing? Also, I highlighted excerpts from her in red I felt warranted extra attention from you.

Pinterest is literally taking the world by storm faster than your smart-phone can auto-correct. It has already received tons of attention from Internet Marketers, but what about you? What about the business owner that could benefit more from Pinterest than Twitter or (dare I say it) Facebook? Does a business like that even exist? In my limited interactions with the website, I not only see tremendous Internet Marketing takeaways, but better value for some companies that “get” the crucial aspect of interaction and engagement associated with Social Media success.

In this post, I wanted to ask an expert, a Pinterest Maven if you will, to help us learn how businesses can take advantage of this “next big thing”. And it got me thinking: How else to better understand consumer interaction with Pinterest than to ask an avid Pinterest user. Folks, I give you a true Pinterest view: An avid Pinterest user as she navigates, connects, and interacts in her personal Pinterest experience…

Where are your consumers dwelling on-line? Follow the creative-DIY-picture-perfect bread crumbs to Pinterest

Hi, my name is Heather Mears and I love Pinterest. I love the fact that I can go to Pinterest because it inspires me, it motivates me, and nourishes my creativity. Allow me to give you a high level view of what Pinterest is. In Pinterest, pictures are posted as pins; pins are kept on boards; and boards are managed by people. Pinterest is easy to use, full of pictures, and the search function makes it easy to navigate throughout the site. The Pinterest member, either a person like me, or a business like Chobani below, administers the boards and manages the pin selections.

Chobani's Pinterest Board

Now, here is how I can interact and engage with a company on Pinterest

Pins are pictures and the pictures can be links: links to blog posts, links to recipes, links to more photos, even links back to your own business website. As a consumer, and avid Pinterest user, the following are but a couple of elements that I’m looking for with my Pinterest experience…

Products with a simple search description

Using the Chobani example once again, I’ll help illustrate my point. Chobani is a brand name product, but most likely not as household as say Kleenex or Band Aid. A Pinterest search for Chobani returns (at the time of this publication) almost 200 pins, two boards, but only one person, the official Chobani Pinterest page. The individual search for pins return pictures of conversion charts, recipes and flavors. The individual search for boards returns the same. But the individual search for people returns the official Chobani page. That page has 17 boards, 488 pins, and a true follower in me. Why? Because it’s a one-stop shop for how Chobani can be included in my every day life: fitness, recipes, recipe additions, nutrition, creativity, menu pairings and inspiration, just to name a few.

Pins or Boards that inspire creativity

Let’s say that I am in the main Pinterest Board, where all the newest pins from the people I follow get posted, and a part of Pinterest that I frequent often in search of my next craft or recipe. In the menu bar, there’s a header for Gifts, with a menu of prices (see image below). Not only can you post pins with the price of the item on it, but the link will go directly to the originating website for purchase. This is a perfect example of how consumers on Pinterest are looking for ideas on, let’s just say their dream kitchen, and need to know where to get the products/contractor/options to make that dream a reality. This is where you as a business can step in and engage consumers like me. Your pins and boards that you manage in your business profile could then include those products and pertinent information needed to make my dream kitchen real.

An Example of Gift Pricing on Pinterest

Obviously, kitchens are only the beginning. Pinterest consumers are searching for inspiration with items as small as scarves to as large as homes with wrap-around porches. But I think that you get the point: Consumers just like me are turning to Pinterest to engage and interact with brands and companies that provide services that I and my community are in to. Personally, I know that I have added a new favorite social website to my life. The only question for you and your business is whether you choose to engage with me on Pinterest or not.

Marketing Takeaway

A Pinterest page is another online outlet to reach your consumers. You have a website, a Facebook page and probably a Twitter account. Hopefully, you’re working on a blog and perhaps a Youtube account. Go ahead and add Pinterest to that “to-do” list. This is another social website that your potential customers are “shopping” for inspiration before they actually purchase. Look no further than some of the highlighted text from the consumer’s portion: it’s all about engagement, interaction, and sharing with her community. With big, vibrant, beautiful color pictures too!

These social signals are at the very core of marketing your products and services online, because it fosters trust, decreases anxiety, and positions your business as an authority in your market. Oh, and I haven’t even touched the Search Engine Optimization component to all of this, what with all of the potential links pointing back to your product pages. It might be a little too early to say something so wide-sweeping, but maybe, just maybe, Pinterest is the bridge that connects the gap between Social Media and Search Engine Optimization?

What are some other takeaways, pro or con, you see from marketing your brand in Pinterest?

Feel free to post a comment below!

How Effective is Your Internet Marketing Strategy?

Business owners need all the help they can get. It’s not a new revolution in gaining more customers, and it certainly cannot be done in the weeks and months after this year’s conference.

What that instructor failed to mention is that Search Engine Optimization not only takes significant time to actually see any Return on Investment (ROI), but requires you to literally adopt a whole new approach to marketing your brand online, understanding your customer’s buying behaviors, and clearly specifying your company’s product offerings. Allow me to help paint a much clearer picture:

SEO REASON #1 – YOU SHOULD START WITH ANALYTICS

How can you determine success without measurement tools? Before you start any marketing campaign, you want to install an analytics tool to help you measure the results. If we at Online Potential have ever had the pleasure of meeting you, it’s very possible that we have referred to ourselves as Marketing Scientists. This post about the importance of data in lead conversion explains that further. Without Analytics, you have no data about traffic to your site, and without that data, you are flying blind in regards to SEO. We prefer Google Analytics because, well, its really powerful and easy to use. Oh yeah, and it’s completely FREE.

SEO TIP #2 – YOUR SEARCH KEYWORDS: THINK DEEPER THAN YOUR PRODUCTS OR SERVICES

There could quite possibly be thousands of keyword terms used to find your very specific products or services. Are you able to sit down and really think about all the possible variations used in a search query for all of them? For example:

What about the market or customer types you serve?

What territories, cities and/or counties do you serve?

And determining all of these potential keyword terms is only a portion of the process!

What about the amount of traffic these keyword terms generate?

What about the competition of these keyword terms? (HINT: the shorter the Keyword term, the greater the odds of high levels of competition).

Oh yeah, and after all of this, you still need to implement these terms into your website for optimization, right? Whew! That’s a lot of time spent already!

SEO TIP #3 – NOT ALL LINKS ARE CREATED THE SAME

So, let’s say that you already have the above steps in place (good for you!), you need to get some links to your site, right?

“The guy at the seminar said that we need some links to rank number one, so let’s go get us some links!… So, um, where are these links anyway?”

Good question, but more importantly, not all links are valued the same in the eyes of Google and other search engines. Some are going to carry more weight than others, and as a result, having those links will benefit you more so than having other, lesser-quality links. There are a lot of ways to get high quality, authoritative links to your site; some are considered ethical in the eyes of search engines, while others are not.

Yes, having links will give you credibility, help you rank better in search engines, and increase the traffic coming to your site. Here is the main takeaway from this seminar that the “SEO instructor” neglected to mention: Traffic to your site doesn’t pay the bills, traffic converted into leads pay the bills!.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t necessarily a seminar, but you get the point. No doubt somewhere you’ve heard similar “big ideas” about SEO before. Don’t get me wrong; without question, a well thought-out SEO strategy is incredibly effective. Just know that at Online Potential, we understand the full picture.

What are some other reasons or issues that you have experienced that seemed to be overlooked at that SEO Seminar???

Having a Difficult Time?
