Using Anchor Text to Improve Your Website's Placement on Google

The key to page 1 search ranking for a keyword on Google is having lots of "quality backlinks" to the page you hope to rank well. The value Google places on a backlink is determined by several factors. The more "authoritative" a website is in the eyes of Google, the higher will be the value of any links from that site to yours. How authoritative a website is determined largely by how many other "authority" sites link to that website. So everything is interwoven and interrelated.

This becomes a "which came first, the chicken or the egg?"scenario with all the websites on a certain topic that are viewed as authoritative by Google being interwoven through cross-linking - a sort of "clique" of authority sites all "voting" through anchor text links for each other as relates to a certain topic or keyword. These high quality or "authority" sites tend to be identified with what Google calls high "Page Rank".

This all comes back to the subject of "quality content". The more valuable the content of your webpage to people interested in that content, the more likely other related or "relevant" websites will link to that webpage, thus providing "linkjuice" and ultimately better ranking on Google for keywords related to that content.
