3 Tips To Help You Progress In The Meantime

So, you attended our Free webinar on the State of Marketing 2012 Q1 and Q2. Not only did the topics discussed really hit home, but you finally were able to address some key Internet Marketing related items and now have the ambition to start knocking them off your “someday / maybe list”. That’s great! Good for you!

But my website is killing me!

When you look at your current website, it becomes painfully obvious that this is where you need to start. Maybe you aren’t in control of your website and that prevents you from starting to add awesome content that potential customers will find and share. Whatever the case, you know that your site needs a major overhaul, giving you the power to easily and regularly add content. Yes, having a website that allows you to add content easily is vital, but that doesn’t mean your new found ambition should pause again! There are tons of things that you can do “in the meantime.”

Here are just a few:

Start Writing Content Now

Not only is content king, but content is everywhere. I guarantee that sometime today, whether over the phone or via email, you will interact with a current or even potential client and answer a common question.  We will too, except here at Gainesville Marketing, when we do, we make a mental note and say "That’s a great blog post!"

Now, think through other common questions you answer with ease over the course of a week or month. What are some of the big problems that clients frequently ask about or misconceptions they have?  Ah...More content.

The point is, you don’t have to wait for your new site to be done to start getting it ready for new content. Which would you rather have: a month or two of blog posts in the hopper ready and waiting on your new site, or having a new site with zero content ready to post?

Is Your Google Places / Google+ Page Up-to-Date?

We covered this during our webinar, but in case you missed it, Google is now transitioning Google Places pages into Google+ Business pages. Although the overall layout of Search Engine Result Pages will not really change a lot, this transition is HUGE for local businesses. Designed to get more people to interact with Google+, Google+ Business pages offers local businesses an opportunity to promote their company and share their content through Google+. Even more powerful is the opportunity for local businesses to rank very well organically for important keyword terms and phrases. “In the meantime,” while you wait for your new website, make sure that you have made the switch and have done all you can to update your Google+ Business page with the most up-to-date information.

Let’s Get Social!

Since you’re already updating your Google+ Business page, you might as well start developing your overall Social Media strategy. If you haven’t already, make sure that you have created a Facebook page for your business. Wash and rinse your Facebook page and create a profile for your company on LinkedIn. Invite your friends to like your Facebook page, and ask that your business colleagues join your new LinkedIn company profile. What, you may ask, will you use to post on these profiles and start interaction with? Look no further than tip number one! Take the content that you are producing “in the meantime” and use excerpts to post on your Social Media profiles. How cool will it be to unveil your new website to your growing Social Media community?

Remember, just because you are waiting for your new site to be built doesn’t mean you have nothing to do. Start creating content for your new site now, make sure that your Social Media profiles are active, and start generating buzz about your new site with your growing community. Follow these tips and you will find you’ve made the most of your “in the meantime.”
