Email Marketing: Pound for Pound Your Highest ROI Marketing Activity
Email marketing, when done right, will increase the quantity and quality of new referrals and help you drive new sales in the door. I have yet to see the business that could not stand to benefit from a well planned email marketing campaign. So the question then becomes:
What's Your Excuse?
Here are some frequent excuses that we hear from clients and business owners and our answers to them. Hopefully this helps you kick your email marketing into gear.
Email Marketing excuse #1 - "I can't afford it"
What if I told you that for about the same price as you would pay for LUNCH at one of our fine North Florida eateries, you could communicate with hundreds and even thousands of potential new customers? Many email service providers offer FREE trial accounts and then offer tiered pricing starting at $9.95. Those are often full-featured so you get all the bells and whistles you need.
Email Marketing excuse #2 - "I don't have the time"
You probably get emails every day from companies who's lists you subscribe to. How much of that content do you think was written that day? Or even that week? One of the beautiful things about email marketing is that you can sit down and and craft an ENTIRE SERIES of emails that will "drip" into a potential new customer's inbox regardless of when they sign up for your list.
Plus, you have an AMAZING resource right here in your backyard - the University of Florida. The College of Journalism is teeming with future writers and journalists that desperately need experience and would love to write for you. Give them a chance!
Email Marketing excuse #3 - "How would I know it's working?"
Ah, now this is an extremely important question and all ESP's (email service providers) provide you will metrics to track the performance of your campaigns. Bare minimum you will want to answer questions like:
- What is the best time to send my list?
- What is the best day of the week to send emails?
- What links in your emails are people clicking on?

So get started ASAP and include email marketing in your fall marketing plan.
